ICM Registry announces the appointment of UK based IPRota Ltd, as its validation partner in the administration and execution of its forthcoming Sunrise Program for the launch of the .XXX sponsored Top Level Domain.

ICM Registry first outlined its Intellectual Property Rights Protection Mechanisms including its innovative Pre-Launch Sunrise Program at the ICANN Open Meeting in Cartagena in December 2010. The mechanisms were praised by members of the intellectual property community for offering a unique and effective mix that will enable certain owners of registered rights to block for the life of the registry any qualifying trademarked term.

ICM registry will work closely with IPRota on the detail and implementation of the Rights Protection Mechanism in the run-up to the launch of .XXX. This will include a comprehensive communications program on all aspects of the Sunrise Program.

Jonathan Robinson, Director of IPRota said, “We are delighted to be working with ICM on the .XXX launch. The ICM management team is strongly positive about effective protections for rights owners. We look forward to working with them on a Sunrise Program that we believe will become a model of good practice”.

Russell King, Chief Operating Officer of ICM said, “We have a duty of care to members of our sponsored community of adult entertainment professionals and also to the broader business community to implement measures that will minimize conflicts. IPRota has the expertise and systems to ensure that those who want to block their brands from use within .XXX can do so whilst those with a legitimate claim to a .XXX domain are supported effectively”.

Stuart Lawley, President of ICM Registry said “ICM Registry wishes to extend its sincere thanks to our initial partner Valideus for the invaluable assistance it provided in developing the details of .XXX Sunrise Program.”

Editor’s Notes:

Jonathan Robinson has extensive experience in the field of domain names and brand protection on the Internet. He is a co-founder and former director of London listed Group NBT plc (NBT.L), an ICANN accredited registrar with a successful brand protection business and is currently a non-Executive Director of Nominet UK Ltd, the .uk registry operator as well as a recently elected councilor representing the Registry Constituency of ICANN on its Generic Names Supporting Organisation.

IPRota Ltd, is based in London and is dedicated to providing Top Level Domain operators with support in the design and operation of their launch programs with a special emphasis upon rights protection mechanisms. Its work with ICM on the .XXX launch will build on the work undertaken by London based specialist, Valideus Ltd. Valideus was originally retained by ICM to assist with the design of the .XXX launch but graciously withdrew from implementation of the initial rights protection mechanism because of the potential for perceived conflict of interest with a related domain name registrar, Com Laude.
